What used to be known as an idyllic cottage town in south-central Ontario is now being reinvented as one of the province’s most up-and-coming cities outside of the Greater Toronto Area.
Keswick, a growing community in the town of Georgina, is on its way to becoming a popular destination for millennial home buyers.
Georgina’s population is expected to grow from 45,400 to 70,000 in just over ten years, with most people moving to Keswick. Keswick’s urban landscape is growing rapidly, and 3,5000 new homes are being built over the next five years.
Keswick is nestled perfectly between Highway 404 and Cook’s Bay on Lake Simcoe. The recently extended highway connects directly to the Don Valley Parkway into downtown Toronto, cutting the drive to just an hour. A business park along the extended 404 highway is already in the works, creating up to 7,500 new jobs.
Mayor Margaret Quirk says that future homebuyers will fall in love with all of the options for fully-detached homes along the lake, and in the heart of Keswick’s urban district.
“There’s such a huge opportunity for housing styles in Keswick and Georgina as a whole,” she says, from modern and brand-new subdivisions to charming restored farmhouses in historic areas. Right now, the average cost of a house in Keswick is $561,000.
Mayor Quirk also announced new infrastructure in Keswick, including an all-new civic centre, a recreation centre, and a new fire hall. Georgina is also full of harvest festivals, farmer’s markets, and local outdoor events throughout the summer.
